The estimated sales for building material and supplies dealers for April 2020 was $30.7 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's Advance Monthly Retail Trade and Food Services Survey.

The Advance Monthly Retail Trade Survey (MARTS) is compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau by mailing out questionnaires to a sampling of about 5,500 employer firms.

The unadjusted figures provide an initial estimate of monthly sales in the retail and food service sectors.

With the results from each industry, the Bureau computes a framework of sales data, giving insight into the current state of U.S. economic activity.
