Kontopanos Voted Academic All-America

Randolph - Macon College issued the following announcement on Aug. 4

Randolph-Macon senior swimmer Victor Kontopanos (North Chesterfield, Va./Home School) earned a spot on the 2020-21 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Third Team for NCAA Division III, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Earlier this summer, Kontopanos was voted Academic All-District by CoSIDA for the second time.

Kontopanos graduated this past May with a grade point average of 4.09 as a double major in Chemistry and Engineering Physics and a minor in Physics. He received the 2020-21 George P. Compton Award as the top senior male student-athlete at R-MC in recognition of outstanding athletic accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership and sportsmanship. Kontopanos also won the 2020-21 Robert Doggett, Jr. Award for having the highest cumulative GPA among graduating senior Yellow Jacket student-athletes.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Kontopanos also earned Academic All-District honors as a sophomore. He was a three-time member of the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team. Kontopanos made Dean's List every semester and was on the ODAC All-Academic Team four times.

During his junior season, Kontopanos was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming. He was All-ODAC First Team for the third time and VaSID All-State First Team. Kontopanos won the 200 Fly at the ODAC Championships in a personal-best time of 1:51.27, setting program, meet and ODAC records. He also placed second in the 100 Fly and third in the 500 Free at the ODAC Championships. One of the top all-around swimmers in program history, Kontopanos is on the R-MC Men's All-Time Top Times list in 11 different events.
