Women's Volleyball Looks To Start ODAC Play 2-0

Randolph - Macon College issued the following announcement on Sept. 23

The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team will look to improve to 2-0 on the week and in ODAC play as it welcomes Guilford to Crenshaw Gymnasium on Friday. The Yellow Jackets are coming off of their league opening win against Shenandoah on Wednesday, while the Quakers are riding high after breaking an eight match losing streak on Saturday.

Records: Randolph-Macon 5-4, 1-0 ODAC; Guilford 3-8, 0-1 ODAC

Series Record: Randolph-Macon 30, Guilford 5

Gracyn Draney (Jr., Forest, Va. / Jefferson Forest) and Sydney Koch (Sr., Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson ) led an efficient RMC attack with 12 kills each. Leslie Currie (So., Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover) led the way receiving with 16 digs while Koch was strong up front with three blocks. Overall the Jackets tallied 51 kills, the most for a three set match on the spring season.

Wednesday, September 22

The Yellow Jackets remained undefeated against Shenandoah and won their 22nd consecutive ODAC opener. Grace Parker (Jr., Andover, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) had a career night tying her career high of 17 kills, but this time in three sets as opposed to four. She did so on 33 attempts with just four errors for a hitting percentage of .394.

Guilford 3, Salem 1 (25-12, 19-25, 25-21, 25-11)

Saturday, September 18

The Quakers broke an eight-match skid with their four set victory over Salem. Cam Blankenship led a balanced attack with 12 kills, while three other players had at least seven kills for the Quakers.

Inside The Numbers

  • Danielle LaRosa (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albermarle) and Koch continue to be a strong 1-2 combo up front disrupting opponents' attacks. LaRosa leads the ODAC with 1.12 blocks per set. Koch is third with 0.82.
  • Overall the Jackets easily lead the conference with 2.06 blocks per set. That number currently ranks 18th nationally.
  • Koch also ranks among one of the top hitters as well and is second in the ODAC in her percentage rate at .340.
For The Record

  • The Yellow Jackets have won 22 out of the last 23 contests with the Quakers. The lone defeat during that stretch came during the 2018 season.
  • Randolph-Macon hasn't lost at home to Guilford since its inaugural season in 1995. It was the 15th match of the season.
