George Mason University Athletic Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 22
The George Mason men's volleyball team ranks in the Top-15 of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) DI-DII Coaches Preseason Poll. The Patriots received 20 total points to rank T-No. 15 in the country, the AVCA announced. The Patriots are tied with EIVA foe NJIT and Ball State.
The Patriots completed the 2021 season ranked at No. 12 overall, where they finished with a record of 15-7.
Mason's 2022 schedule is filled with opponents who ranked in the Top-15 of the AVCA DI-DII Coaches Preseason Poll.
The Patriots will face all scheduled ranked opponents on the road for the first half of schedule play. Mason will stop in Muncie, Indiana on January 21st to face off against T-No.15 Ball State, followed by stops at No. 5 Penn State on February 5 and T-No. 15 NJIT on February 11.
After a stretch at home, the Patriots will fly out to the west coast for spring break matchups against No. 3 Pepperdine on March 11 and No. 12 UC Irvine on March 12.
Princeton and Southern California, who are 2022 opponents for Mason, received votes in the Top-15 poll.
The ranked Patriots will kick off their season on the road as they take on Barton on Friday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in Wilson, North Carolina.
