Virginia Union University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 5
Virginia Union University's Robert Osborne scored a game-high 22 points as the Panthers downed Bluefield State College 93-59 on Wednesday, January 5, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
"Anytime you can come off the Christmas break and being off for so long I think the guys were a little anxious to play," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler. "We had been practicing against each other for so long, and to get the opportunity to play against Bluefield State was a good opportunity. We were great defensively and (Osborne) got it going offensively."
VUU's Tyriek Railey scored 18 points while Keleaf Tate added 16 points.
Virginia Union's Raemaad Wright scored 12 points to round out the double-figure scoring for the Panthers.
Osborne also had seven rebounds to lead VUU on the boards.
The win raised VUU, which is ranked ninth in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA, to 9-3 on the season while Bluefield State fell to 1-8.
