Vidal Leads Nine Yellow Jackets on VaSID All-State Football Team

Randolph-MacOn College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 14

Randolph-Macon senior kicker Chris Vidal (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest) was named Special Teams Player of the Year as the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) unveiled its 2021 College Division All-State Team for football on Friday.

Vidal was also voted All-State First Team as a kicker and a punter. Other All-State First Team selections included senior running back Justin DeLeon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan), senior tight end Tim Hanratty (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), senior offensive lineman Will Jackson (Biscoe, N.C./East Montgomery) senior offensive lineman Connor Denning (Benson, N.C./West Johnston), senior defensive tackle Jace DePriest (Richmond, Va./Varina), senior defensive end Tyler DeBerry (Greensboro, N.C./Page) and senior cornerback Stephen Richardson (Richmond, Va./Varina). Junior offensive lineman Nehemiah Nixon (Garner, N.C./Garner) was All-State Second Team.

Vidal was All-America Second Team by the AFCA and All-Region First Team by D3football.com. He was State Small College Specialist of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Richmond for the second time as well as All-ODAC First Team twice. Vidal hit 12 of 15 field goals (80%). He was sixth in the nation with 1.20 field goals per game and ninth in field goal percentage. He hit a career-long 49-yard field goal in a win at Ferrum. Vidal was 48-48 on PATs. He was second on the team and second in the ODAC in scoring with 84 points. Vidal had 172 career PATs, the top number in program and ODAC history. He had 34 career field goals, the second-highest amount in ODAC and program history. An All-ODAC Second Team selection as a punter, Vidal averaged 46.8 yards per punt. At the end of the regular season, R-MC led the nation in net punting at 41.05.

DeLeon was All-Region Second Team by D3football.com and State Small College Offensive Back of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Richmond. He was named the J. Stokeley Fulton Offensive Player of the Year as well as All-ODAC First Team. DeLeon led the ODAC with 100.5 rushing yards per game, 15 rushing touchdowns, 16 total touchdowns and 96 points. At the end of the regular season, DeLeon was 17th in the nation with 15 rushing touchdowns as well as 22nd in the country with 16 total touchdowns and 96 points. DeLeon started all 10 games. He had season highs with 20 carries and 202 rushing yards in a 34-31 victory over Emory & Henry.

Jackson was All-America First Team by the AFCA and All-Region Second Team by D3football.com. He was State Small College Offensive Lineman of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Richmond for the second straight season. Jackson was All-ODAC First Team for the third time. Denning was All-Region Third Team by D3football.com. He was All-ODAC First Team and All-ODAC for the fifth time. Hanratty was All-Region Third Team by D3football.com and All-ODAC First Team. He had eight catches for 155 yards and one touchdown. Nixon was All-ODAC Second Team. Jackson, Denning, Hanratty and Nixon worked on an offensive line for a team that at the end of the regular season was second in the nation in time of possession at 34:58, fourth in fewest sacks allowed at 0.60 per game, sixth in fourth down conversion percentage at 0.773, 10th in tackles for loss allowed at 3.30, 14th in rushing offense at 251.7, 19th in total offense at 451.4 and 19th in scoring offense at 41.3.

DePriest was All-Region Second Team by D3football.com. He was State Small College Defensive Lineman of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Richmond. He was voted the Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year as well as the ODAC/ Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete for football. An All-ODAC First Team selection, DePriest was second on the team with 34 tackles. He led the R-MC defense with 11 tackles for loss (minus-46 yards). DePriest was second on the team with 3.5 quarterback sacks (minus-25 yards). He forced two fumbles, recovered one fumble and had one pass breakup. DePriest had a season-high eight solo tackles in the win over Emory & Henry. DePriest was an Academic All-District selection and is on the ballot for Academic All-America.

DeBerry was All-Region Second Team by D3football.com and All-ODAC First Team for a second time. He led the team with 55 tackles and 38 solo stops. DeBerry paced the Yellow Jacket defense with four quarterback sacks (minus-30 yards) and was second with 7.5 tackles for loss (minus-37 yards). He forced one fumble. DeBerry led the team with a season-high 11 tackles and eight solo stops in a season-ending win over Hampden-Sydney.

Richardson was All-Region Third Team by D3football.com and All-ODAC First Team. He started all 10 games with 22 tackles, including 19 solo stops. Richardson led the team and was second in the ODAC with four interceptions. He had four pass breakups and one tackle for loss. Richardson is a two-time All-ODAC selection.

Under head coach Pedro Arruza, Randolph-Macon posted a 9-1 overall record and 5-1 ODAC mark, tying for the top spot in the conference. Over the past three seasons, the Yellow Jackets are 23-3.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
