George Mason University Athletic Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 29
George Mason track and field hosted the Patriot Games over the weekend at the George Mason Field House.
Mason student-athletes Jack Ikenberry and Jaylen Simmons each broke their own school records in their respective events.
On Friday, Ikenberry ran a PR of 14:25.84 in the 5000m, besting his previous time by five seconds. Sophomore Willem Landis added an impressive run in the event, finishing second with a PR of 14:27.50 – good for second all-time at Mason.
Simmons broke his own school record in the weight throw with a personal-record toss of 20.30 meters. He added a first-place finish in the shot put (17.63m). It marks the third straight weekend Simmons has swept the two events.
Thrower Jessica McRae posted a personal-record of 18.28 meters in the weight throw – good for third all-time at Mason. She finished second in the event, followed by Grace Gaudin in third (18.10m).
In her Green & Gold debut, graduate student Laura DeMarzi notched first in the triple jump with a mark of 11.40 meters.
In the men's long jump, sophomore Xavier Shirley placed first (7.02m), followed by Ellis Nei in second (6.68m).
Junior Forest Flynn cleared a personal-record height of 4.76m in the pole vault to place second. Junior Hannah Robertson placed second on the women's side with a height of 3.77m.
Elsewhere on the track, sophomore Michka-Mae Hyde won the 400m dash with a time of 58.87. Sophomore Ed Deskins placed second in the 200m meter dash (22.82).
Up next, Mason will split up for a pair of meets in Boston, heading to the Crimson Elite Invite on Friday and Scarlet & White Invite on Saturday.
