Randolph-MacOn College Athletics issued the following announcement on March 2

Sophomore Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) belted a two-run homer in the third and senior Spencer Pietruszynski (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) had three RBI as the Randolph-Macon baseball team dropped an 11-8 decision at Marymount on Wednesday afternoon.

The Basics

Score: Marymount 11, Randolph-Macon 8

Venue: Nationals Youth Academy

Records: R-MC 4-2, MU 6-0

How It Happened:

  • The Saints scored twice in the first before the Yellow Jackets responded in the third. Junior Logan Smith (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) drew a leadoff walk and scored when Cole smacked a two-out dinger, his second of the season, to level the score at 2-2.
  • MU tallied a run in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 edge before R-MC answered in the fourth. Junior Brooks Mazey (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) had a two-out double and came home on a two-bagger by junior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) to knot the score at 3-3.
  • The Saints tallied three in the fourth and four in the sixth for a 10-3 advantage. The Yellow Jackets got one back in the seventh. Johnson had a one-out single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pietruszynski to make it 10-4.
  • R-MC would put up four in the eighth. Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, sophomore Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) walked with the bases full, and Pietruszynski contributed a two-run double to make it 10-8.
  • After MU added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, the Yellow Jackets would load the bases in the ninth but fail to score, making the final 11-8.

  • Johnson went 3 for 5 with two runs and one RBI.
