13

George Mason University Athletic Department issued the following announcement on March 8

The George Mason golf team led by senior J.P. Miller and grad student Will Halamandaris finished sixth at the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic played in Southern Pines, N.C.

Seton Hall won the tournament with an 873 team (298-288-287) score, four strokes ahead of first-round leader Elon University 877 (292-296-289). Atlantic 10 foe Richmond finished third. The defending champion Loyola Greyhounds finished fourth.

Princeton's William Huang and North Carolina's Kenan Poole took home co-medalist honors each carding a three-round 210. Poole turned in a five-under-par 67 final round to move up two places and tie Huang, including an eagle on the par 5, hole 15 down the stretch. Huang led the field with 17 birdies.

For the third consecutive tournament, J.P. Miller led the Patriots with a sixth-place finish individually. The senior put together three consistent rounds, finishing at even par, (73-70-73=216). Miller led the 108-player field in pars with 41.

Will Halamandaris recorded the top Mason score today with a one-under-par 71 to finish tied for 13th overall (73-74-71=218). The grad student led the Patriots with 11 birdies and one eagle.

Sophomore Nikita Gubenko and freshman Colin Slater rounded out the scoring for the Patriots. Gubenko finished the final round with 13 pars but a triple on the par 5 tenth plagued his card to finish five-over-par today. Slater finished two-over-par in both the second and final rounds.

Mason travels down the road to compete in the Forest Creek Collegiate at Pinehurst, N.C., March 12-13.
