Ambrogi-Torres Returns to R-MC as Assistant Field Hockey Coach

25

R-MC head field hockey coach Jess Weiss has announced the addition of Maria-Teresa Ambrogi-Torres as an assistant coach.

"Our field hockey program is undoubtedly better today," Weiss said, "as we announce the hiring of Teresita. She has been a steadfast leader and learner over the past five years, so I am ecstatic to elevate her status on staff. This past spring, she easily navigated the transition from player to coach in a part-time capacity and all of us have benefited from her presence on the sideline. I'm fortunate to work alongside her passion, hockey IQ and competitive spirit as we continue pushing the program forward."

One of the most decorated players in program history, Ambrogi-Torres was a five-time All-ODAC selection. She was All-ODAC Second Team for the third time this past season and was a 2021 NFHCA Senior All-Star. Ambrogi-Torres led the Yellow Jackets with 11 goals, five assists and 27 points.

"I am so thankful for the opportunity to give back to the program that gave so much to me," Abrogi-Torres said. "I am excited to work alongside Coach Weiss and help progress the team to the next level."

During her five-year career, Ambrogi-Torres started 81 of 81 possible games and finished with 109 career points, 13th in the nation among active players and sixth in program history. Her 46 career goals ranked 14th in the country and sixth in Yellow Jacket history. In 2019, Ambrogi-Torres was All-ODAC First Team as well as VaSID All-State First Team. She was All-Region Second Team, the program's first All-Region selection in six years.

This past spring, Ambrogi-Torres received the Susan Locke de Nagy Award, presented annually to a senior female student-athlete in recognition of her outstanding athletic accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Throughout her career, Ambrogi-Torres earned team leadership honors in three different seasons. She has worked as a youth field hockey coach as well as working with young Central Virginia athletes. This past spring, Ambrogi-Torres served as an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets during their non-traditional season workouts.

Ambrogi-Torres graduated Cum Laude in December of 2021 with a Biology degree and a minor in Spanish. She was a Dean's List student, four-time ODAC All-Academic Team, three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad and a VaSID Academic All-State honoree in 2021 as well as 2022.
