Bon Secours Names Mike Lutes President of its Richmond Market

Bon Secours - Richmond has named Mike Lutes as its new market president, effective October 10, 2022.

“Mike Lutes is exceptionally skilled with complex health care system operations in diverse markets and has demonstrated a real strength in establishing community partnerships,” said Don Kline, Bon Secours Mercy Health chief operating officer. “He is a proven leader who has been successful throughout his career implementing a strategic vision and collaborating with physicians and associates, and we are excited to welcome him to our health care ministry.”

Lutes brings more than 20 years of health care experience to his new role. He joins Bon Secours from Atrium Health, an integrated nonprofit health system based in Charlotte, North Carolina with more than 70,000 employees, 40 hospitals and 1,400 care locations. He held a variety of leadership roles at the system, most recently serving as senior vice president and market president for their south market with oversight of five hospitals.

Over his 15 years at Atrium Health, Lutes drove strategic growth and increased accessibility for more communities through the development of two new medical office buildings, multiple ambulatory surgery centers and free-standing emergency departments, and the system’s first new hospital in more than 30 years. He also developed and opened Atrium Health Anson in Wadesboro, North Carolina which featured an innovative care model that was recognized by the American Hospital Association, as well as in Modern Healthcare and other national publications.

As Richmond market president, Lutes will oversee all Richmond market operations, helping to advance a mission-focused culture of innovation and excellence, while bringing best practices for efficiency and effective, compassionate care delivery across the market.

“I am honored to join the Richmond team and work with our physicians, community partners and associates to serve the unique needs of our patients across the region,” said Lutes. “I see my new role as an opportunity to continue to advance Bon Secours’ mission of improving the health and well-being of our communities, while ensuring the patient is at the center of every decision.”

Lutes will work closely with the board, physician and market leadership to ensure a smooth transition.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and health care management from Appalachian State University and a Master of Health Administration degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.
