Jada Byers Named National Player of the Week
Virginia Union University's Jada Byers, who rushed for a CIAA-record 319 yards and ran for three touchdowns against previously second-ranked Valdosta State University, has been named the National Offensive Player of the Week by D2Football.com, it was announced on Wednesday, September 14.
Byers, a sophomore from Hammonton, N.J., who is majoring in Social Work, carried the ball 32 times and had back-to-back touchdown runs of 52 yards and 50 yards. He also caught three passes for 23 yards and a touchdown.
In all, Byers accounted for 342 yards of total offense.
"I believe national level numbers deserve national level recognition," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker. "Jada's performance was nothing short of amazing, he shows a great amount of belief in his teammates and has repeatedly given credit to the offensive line for his performance. To be a national player of the week speaks volumes about his level of talent".
Virginia Union, ranked #1 in two national polls, will face Livingstone College at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, at Willie Lanier Field at Hovey Stadium.
