Mason to Welcome Dayton to Fairfax
The George Mason women's volleyball team continues conference play this weekend, welcoming the Flyers of Dayton to Fairfax for a two-match series.
Both teams are coming off of a mid-week Tuesday matchup. Dayton was victorious over Duquesne in straight sets while George Mason fell to George Washington in a tight five-set match.
In the eight-year history of the two teams being in the A-10, Mason has not been able to beat Dayton yet. The last time out, the Flyers beat the Patriots in straight-sets in Ohio.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Three Patriots now own season tallies of 100+ kills. Sophomore Olyvia Kennedy (165), freshman Gabriella Gelfound (102) and senior Mujay Mambu (101) lead the Mason offense.
- Gelfound also leads the Patriots in assists (262) is third on the team with 113 digs. The freshman recorded her second career double-double on Tuesday with double-digit tallies in those categories.
- Defensively, senior Stephanie Der paces the team with 218 digs. Graduate student Peyton Ehmke leads at the net with 57.0 blocks after a season-high six block assists on Tuesday.
Three Flyers have also tallied 100 kills this season. Lexie Almodovar leads the team with 176 in just 46 sets, averaging 3.83 kills/set. Livie Sandt paces the offense, tallying 511 assists so far this season, good for a conference-high 8.81 assists/set. Defensively, Anna Wuensch leads the team with 194 digs and Amelia Moore leads with 97 blocks, including 12 solos.
