Campanale Finalist for Lanier Award

Randolph-Macon junior quarterback Drew Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) is one of two finalists for the Lanier Award, presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch to the top college division football player in the state of Virginia.

The award, named for Richmond native and Pro Football Hall of Famer Willie Lanier, is voted on by a panel of media members. The winner will be announced on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in a live television broadcast on CBS 6 in Richmond following the Army-Navy football game.

Campanale was named ODAC Offensive Player of the Year as well as All-ODAC First Team. He leads all four divisions of NCAA college football in completion percentage (.781), passing efficiency (221.8) and yards per pass attempt (12.4). He completed 143 of 183 passes for 2,274 yards and 23 touchdowns with two interceptions.

Campanale guided an offense that is first in the nation in Division III in team passing efficiency (197.9), passes had intercepted (2) and third down conversion percentage (.592). The Yellow Jackets are fourth in time of possession (34:16), fourth in offensive first downs (305), 10th in scoring offense (42.6) and 16th in total offense (467.8).

R-MC went 11-1 and reached the second round of the NCAA Playoffs. The Yellow Jackets set a program record with 11 wins in a season. R-MC went 7-0 in conference play and captured its 13th ODAC championship.

The second finalist for the Lanier Award is sophomore running back Jada Byers of Virginia Union.

The Dudley Award will also be presented on Saturday to the top university division player. The finalists are quarterback Todd Centeio of James Madison, linebacker John Pius of William and Mary, and quarterback Reece Udinkski of Richmond.
