Kagey Earns ODAC Player of the Week After Dominant Florida Trip

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has named Junior Forward Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) player of the week for women's basketball. It is the first time a player from R-MC women's basketball has garnered the award this season.

Kagey had a strong showing in the two games over winter break down in Daytona Beach, Fla. In the first game, Kagey notched 28 points, on 11-18 shooting, and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She scored the final 12 points for the Yellow Jackets to seal a 55-49 win over a Wisconsin-Oshkosh team that went to the Elite 8 a season ago. She added two assists, a steal, and a block in the game.

In the second game in three days for R-MC, Kagey once again dominated. She posted 22 points, on 8-15 shooting, and 16 rebounds in a 55-43 win over a good St. Norbert team. She also added three assists, three blocks, and a steal, dominating the game on both sides of the ball. She picked up eight points and six rebounds in the final quarter to help the Yellow Jackets leave the Daytona Beach Shootout with a 2-0 record.

Kagey is now averaging 15.7 points per game, and 9.4 rebounds per game, as the month of December has been a turning point for the women's basketball team. Next, they will host Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday, January 4th at 7:00 p.m. in Crenshaw Gym as they continue conference play.
