How it Happened:

  • Neither team had the offense clicking in the first quarter, as senior Devan Conrad (Parkville, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) capped off a 6-2 run for R-MC through the first six minutes. Defenses continued to lead the way through the final four minutes, as R-MC led 9-5 after one.
  • The offense found its footing in the second, as R-MC began the second quarter on a 20-2 run as sophomore Julianna Park (Fairfax Station, Va./Davidson Day) and fifth year senior Cheridan Hatfield (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) each had six points during the stretch and freshman Jane Elkins (Annandale, Va./Bishop Ireton) pitched in five as the Yellow Jackets held a 29-14 halftime lead.
  • The first three minutes of the second half resulted in a 8-2 R-MC run but Hollins kept up with R-MC's scoring pace after that, shooting 54.5% from the field and 67% from three in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets still held onto a 52-29 lead after 30 minutes of play. Elkins dominated the quarter with nine points to contribute to her team-leading 14 on the day.
  • Junior Olivia Murray (Moseley, Va./Manchester) and sophomore Cait Velez (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) each pitched in four points to lead R-MC in the fourth as the Lemon and Black held on to win 64-40.

  • Elkins led all scorers with 14 points on 5-8 shooting, as Julianna Park added 11 points as the only two Yellow Jackets players in double figures.
  • The Yellow Jackets got 35 bench points on the day, and holding Hollins' bench to just four.
  • The 10 steals for the R-MC defense mark their fourth time in the last six games with at least 10 steals, and the eighth time in the last 12.
