Bon Secours Hosts Free Heart Screening

For American Heart Month, a time to focus on cardiovascular health, Bon Secours is announcing the return of its annual heart screening at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

The 2023 event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. During that time, anyone who is interested in learning more about their heart health can undergo a series of screenings to include a full lipid profile, blood pressure and blood glucose checks, body mass index (BMI) measurements and risk assessment. 

“Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke, is the number one killer of both men and women. However, many people are still unaware of the symptoms and vital information associated with the disease,” said Robbie Keefer, director of chronic condition management for Bon Secours. “We’re hoping this event will help educate and increase awareness to improve the health of our community.”

About 80 percent of heart disease can be prevented or managed, so knowledge is power when it comes to knowing your numbers – cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI. 

The upcoming heart screening is free and open to the public. No pre-registration is required, although fasting for the screenings is recommended for accurate results. Complimentary parking will be available in the VIP lot off Church Street.
