Census Bureau: 6.5% of people in Northumberland County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 11,965 citizens living in Northumberland County in 2021, 93.5% said they were only one race, while 6.5% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Northumberland County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 71.5% or 8,550 individuals. Following them, African American accounted for 21.7% and totaled 2,593 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Northumberland County is 0.6% higher than the state average, which stands at 5.9%.
