Westmoreland County Education: 2,184 students were enrolled in 2023-24 school year

There were 2,184 students enrolled in Westmoreland County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 2.3% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

In terms of gender distribution, the student body in Westmoreland County comprised 53% boys, with girls representing the remaining 47%.

Data also showed that white students made up 43.7% of the student body, the largest percentage in Westmoreland County schools, followed by Black or African American students with 32.9%, 13.6% Hispanic students and 0.4% American Indian or Alaskan Native students.

Washington & Lee High School had the highest enrollment among Westmoreland County's six schools in the 2023-24 school year, welcoming 494 students.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools have an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1, slightly better than the national average of 15:1. Minority students, primarily Hispanic and Black, make up 54% of the enrollment, while white students constitute 46%.
