Lancaster County Education: 949 students were enrolled in 2023-24 school year

There were 949 students enrolled in Lancaster County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 48.3% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

In terms of gender distribution, the student body in Lancaster County comprised 51.4% boys, with girls representing the remaining 48.6%.

Data also showed that Black or African American students made up 51.4% of the student body, the largest percentage in Lancaster County schools, followed by white students with 38.3%, 2.3% Hispanic students and 0.8% Asian students.

Lancaster Middle School had the highest enrollment among Lancaster County's two schools in the 2023-24 school year, welcoming 541 students.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools have an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1, slightly better than the national average of 15:1. Minority students, primarily Hispanic and Black, make up 54% of the enrollment, while white students constitute 46%.
