Fewer students enrolled in Lancaster County's only school district in 2023-24 school year

The only school district in Lancaster County suffered declining enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

There were 1,020 students in Lancaster County Public Schools District, 1.8% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Lancaster County was steady with the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 51.7% of them were male, and 48.3% were female.

Data also showed that most of the studets were Black, representing 52.1% of Lancaster County Public Schools District's total enrollment.

Lancaster County Public Schools District has a main office in Kilmarnock and is the only school district within Lancaster County.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
