University of Richmond Names New Chief Human Resources Officer
Geraldine Sullivan has been appointed as chief human resources officer at the University of Richmond, effective March 27. Sullivan is UR’s first CHRO.
Sullivan will report to David Hale, executive vice president and chief operating officer, and will also hold a seat on the president’s cabinet.
For the past 15 years, Sullivan has worked in human resources at Yale University and the Yale School of Medicine in positions with increasing scope and responsibility. Most recently, Sullivan was the associate vice president for human resources. Prior to joining Yale in 2008, she held various positions in the private sector, including nine years with Marriott Hotels and Resorts, where she held various operational and leadership roles.
Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from Purdue University. As a Latina, born and raised in Puerto Rico, Sullivan has a strong commitment and focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to add to her deep and broad experience in human resources.
“Geraldine will strengthen the University of Richmond with her expertise in human resources and proven track record as an effective and collaborative leader,” said Hale. “She has a tremendous amount of experience building programs and bringing people together around shared goals.”

I am excited to get started and become of member of this welcoming community.”
Sullivan succeeds longtime senior associate vice president for human resources Carl Sorensen, who is retiring this spring after having served the University community for 17 years.
