Westmoreland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center earned an overall rating of 3 out of 5 for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This rating matched the 3.0 average for nursing homes statewide in Virginia.

The facility had 66 available beds, which is 47 fewer than the Virginia average for the same period. During the quarter, staff assisted an average of 60.4 residents each day.

By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Westmoreland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center accumulated one fine totaling $27,885 and faced one penalty.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the senior population is rising as the younger population declines. Americans age 65 and up grew by 13% between 2020 and 2024, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the nation’s older adult population increased significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

Results from a 2021 study indicate that nearly half of seniors—about 28 million people—will need long-term services and supports, and more than a third may ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
