Women’s Hoops Climbs to Fourth in Region VI Rankings

The Randolph-Macon women’s basketball team has moved up to fourth in Region VI in the second edition of the NCAA.com regional rankings. Seven teams are ranked in the region, including four ODAC schools.

The Yellow Jackets are 19-6 overall and 15-3 in ODAC play this season heading into the ODAC tournament where the Yellow Jackets hold the two-seed. Last week, the Yellow Jackets picked up two more wins in ODAC play, defeating Lynchburg, 87-65, with the best offensive output of the season. They turned around to earn a tough win on the road at Guilford in the season finale, 53-46.

In the rankings, the top-ranked team in the country in Christopher Newport sits atop the region once again, with Mary Washington one spot behind them. The top two ODAC teams populate the next two spots in Washington and Lee and Randolph-Macon. Emory moves down two spots to fifth, and the ODAC is represented in the final two spots as well with Guilford and Bridgewater.

Randolph-Macon will take the second seed into the ODAC tournament riding a four-game win streak. The Yellow Jackets will take on seventh seed Shenandoah at 6:00 p.m. tonight in the quarterfinals in Salem, Va.
