Women's Volleyball Looks For Trifecta vs. Lynchburg

Randolph - Macon College issued the following announcement on Oct. 7

The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team will look to make it a perfect week as it goes for the trifecta against Lynchburg Friday evening. The Yellow Jackets are coming off dominating wins against Hollins and Randolph and will host the Hornets for their third match in five days.

The Basics

Time: 6 p.m.

Venue: Crenshaw Gymnasium

Records: Randolph-Macon 10-4, 5-0 ODAC; Lynchburg 7-9, 3-3 ODAC

Series Record: Randolph-Macon 25, Lynchburg 14

The Yellow Jackets avenged a regular season defeat with an impressive win in the ODAC tournament over hosting Lynchburg. It was the start of a strong run by the Lemon and Black as they advanced all the way to the conference championship. Sydney Koch (Sr., Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson) led a strong attack with 13 kills and Grace Parker (Jr., Andover, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) added 10 more.

The Yellow Jackets had little trouble taming the WildCats in straight sets to extend their win streak to six. Danielle LaRosa (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) paced the team with 11 kills and was also strong up front by blocking four Randolph attacks.

Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Lynchburg

The Hornets downed the Eagles in four sets in non-conference action on Wednesday. Abbi Leeper had an impressive night and led the offense with 18 kills, a season-best and two shy of a career high. Khoury May added 12.

Inside The Numbers

  • Friday's match will feature a battle of the two best blockers in the ODAC. LaRosa is second in the league with 1.04 blocks per set, second only to Lynchburg's Nicole Brice who has 1.14.
  • Randolph-Macon leads the conference in blocks per set with 1.85. Lynchburg isn't far behind with 1.77, the fourth-best mark in the conference with traditional powers Washington & Lee and Virginia Wesleyan separating the two.
  • Koch remains in the top five most successful hitters in the ODAC with a percentage of .338, good for fourth. She's just .001 from being tied for third and .003 from being tied for second.
  • Randolph-Macon and Lynchburg are two of the most successful teams off the serve in the ODAC this season. The Yellow Jackets lead the conference with 2.1 aces per set, while the Hornets are fourth with 2.02.
