Eight from R-MC Football Selected Academic All-District

Eight members of the Randolph-Macon football team earned Academic All-District honors by the College Sports Communicators.

Those eight include:

Junior linebacker Jackson Deaver (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sanford)

Sophomore defensive lineman Wade Grubbs (Providence Forge, Va./New Kent)

Senior running back Nick Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd)

Senior quarterback Andrew Ihle (Apex, N.C./Middle Creek)

Sophomore kicker Kyle Ihle (Apex, N.C./Middle Creek)

Senior defensive back Cade Jones (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley)

Senior defensive lineman Ryan Malick (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee)

Junior linebacker Brandon Onestak (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby)

All have a cumulative grade point average at 3.50 or higher and all will be on the Academic All-America ballot.

Deaver is a Business major with focus in Management. He is minoring in Economics and Biology. Deaver has been on Dean's List each semester and is a member of the ODAC All-Academic Team. Deaver is All-ODAC First Team. He is second on the team with 45 tackles. He has seven tackles for loss for minus-27 yards and 3.5 quarterback sacks for minus-17 yards. Deaver had an interception and a 20-yard return in the win over Cortland in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs.

Grubbs is a double major in Business and Economics with a minor in Religious Studies. He was a member of the 2021-22 ODAC All-Academic Team. Grubbs is All-ODAC First Team. He has 31 tackles in 10 games. He tops the team with 11 tackles for loss (minus-74 yards) and 9.5 quarterback sacks for minus-72 yards. Grubbs has one forced fumble.

Hale is a Business Finance major with a minor in Economics. He is a Dean's List student and a member of the ODAC All-Academic Team. Hale is All-ODAC First Team. He has 144 carries for 776 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is fifth in the ODAC with 77.7 yards per game and second with 5.4 yards per carry. Hale was All-ODAC Second Team in 2021.

Andrew Ihle was an Academic All-American in 2021. He is majoring in Accounting. Ihle is a Presidential Scholar, has been on Dean's List every semester and was a member of the 2021-22 VaSID Academic All-State Team. He has been a four-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team and received the William C. Temple Award for most outstanding student in Business, Economics and Accounting Departments. Ihle is All-ODAC First Team. He is first in the ODAC and 19th in the nation with 14 rushing touchdowns. He is third on the team with 380 rushing yards and averages 5.5 yards per rush. Ihle has completed 10 of 15 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown. He also holds for field goals and extra-point kicks.

Kyle Ihle is majoring in Accounting and Economics. He is in the Honors Program, has been on Dean's List each semester and was a member of the 2021-22 ODAC All-Academic Team. Ihle is fourth on the team with 56 points. He is averaging 35.2 yards per punt with a long of 66. Ihle has put six punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line and has two punts of 50 or more yards. He is averaging 60.6 yards per kickoff and has 31 touchbacks out of 80 kickoffs.

Jones is a Political Science major with a minor in Criminology. He has been on Dean's List all but one semester, won the Dean's Award and is a three-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team. Jones is All-ODAC First Team. He tops the team with 47 tackles. He has one tackle for loss. Jones has two interceptions and five pass breakups.

Malick is majoring in Engineering Physics and Computer Science with a minor in Asian Studies. He has the highest GPA on the football team. Malick has received the Trustees Award, the R.L. Moore Calculus Award, the Earl Koontz Award and the Physics Watts Scholarship. He has been on Dean's List each semester and is a three-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team. Malick has added depth to the defensive line. He has appeared in five games with six total tackles. Four of those six have been solo stops.

Onestak is a Business Management major. He is in the Honors Program, has been on Dean's List and is a member of the ODAC All-Academic Team. Onestak is fourth on the team with 34 tackles. He has two tackles for loss and one quarterback sack.

Randolph-Macon (11-0) will travel to Delaware Valley (11-0) on Saturday, Nov. 26 for a noon contest in the second round of the NCAA Championship.
