Women's Tennis Edges Mary Washington

George Mason University Athletic Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 5

The George Mason women's tennis team edged the University of Mary Washington today in Fredericksburg, Va in the team's first match of the spring season.

The Eagles won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles action.

The Green and Gold won four of the six singles matches for the 4-3 win.

Ashley Fitz-Patrick earned the first Mason point after a 6-1, 6-2 win against the Eagles Riley Smith. After Mary Washington went up 2-1, Mason's Grace Hashiguchi defeated Lauren Quinn, 6-4, 6-1 to tie the match, 2-2. The Eagles went up 3-2 before Mason won the final two matches fo secure the win.

The Patriots are back in action tomorrow at Maryland at 5 p.m.

DOUBLES

#1 Claire Coleman/Amanda H defeated Paige La/Grace Hashiguchi, 8-5

#2 Lauren Quinn/Abby M defeated Jackie Nannery/Hannah Yang, 8-4

#3 Savannah Crowell/Francesca Tella defeated Emily Beckner/Hannah K, 8-3

SINGLES

#1 Paige La (Mason) def. Abby Moghtader,  7-6(4), 4-6, 10-3

#2 Claire Coleman defeated  Brianna Gibbs, 6-0, 6-3

#3 Grace Hashiguchi defeated Lauren Quinn, 6-4, 6-1

#4 Hannah Yang defeated Hannah Kimmey, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4

#5 Amanda Hagino defeated Jackie Nannery, 6-3, 7-6(3), 9-1

#6 Ashlley Fitz-Patrick defeated Riley Smith, 6-1, 6-2
